Doreen Pendgracs


Doreen Pendgracs has worked on a wide variety of creative freelance projects, including a number of books. In the fall of 2013, her company Wizard of Words Productions published volume I of “Chocolatour: A Quest for the World’s Best Chocolate,” a travel memoir intended to entice readers into travelling the world with chocolate in mind. Doreen is currently researching volume II of Chocolatour, which will focus on the best of the Americas and the Caribbean.

In 2010, Doreen authored, “Before You Say Yes … A Guide to the Pleasure & Pitfalls of Volunteer Boards, ” published by Dundurn Press. “Before You Say Yes” has been heralded as the ultimate guide for anyone sitting on a board of directors in the non-profit sector.

Doreen also co-authored two books: the bestselling “Manitoba Book of Everything,” published by MacIntyre Purcell in October, 2008, and a travel guidebook on Canada’s most easterly province: “Frommer’s Newfoundland & Labrador” (first edition, published April, 2004 by Wiley.)

In addition to books and a wide variety of periodical and online assignments, Doreen has also done writing/editing projects for various corporate clients including the Canadian Tourism Commission and Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company. She has also conducted workshops and made presentations on freelance writing, travel writing, blogging, crowdfunding, volunteerism, and other topics for the Travel Media Association of Canada, the Manitoba Writers’ Guild, the Manitoba Magazine Publishers Association and Grant McEwan College. In addition, Doreen’s speaking abilities have dazzled audiences on Celebrity Cruise Lines and in other forums where she now primarily talks about the world of chocolate.

Doreen enjoys sharing her knowledge and has formally and informally mentored many new and emerging writers and many new Toastmasters. She is a Distinguished Toastmaster, and founder and past president of the Toastmasters in the Arts club in Manitoba’s Interlake region.
